Trough Faggot Party, a loose homosocial affair, will archive their dance event propaganda in the gallery space at Utopian Slumps. Behind the clean imagery, a cacophony of artists and designers will turn up for the party and take task to re-present the male models at the Trough in the way they see fit. Each remodel will consist of an assemblage of objects and patterns that forms their own male night club; an island of phallic minarets connected by a common thread. Accompanying the installation will be video feeds from two Dutch-based artists, Emile Zile and Annie Wu, configuring the connection to their homeland dance movement.
Beyond the surface, the exhibition explores an entangled web of relationships with no hierarchy or structure guiding their movements. Within this method of working, artists must make our own rules and get algorithmic. The danger of rule finding is that the logic is often hidden, rendering a striking auto-poeticism where countless decisions are lost in a cavalcade of images that reject a totalising aesthetic.
Acknowledging the superficiality present in a nightclub based on homo-geniety, Al-Ah-Manful speculate on whether we can get over our self image and reach towards an organic solidarity based upon new allegiances.
Al-Ah-Manful collects an assortment of artists and designers in the pursuit of meaningful allegiance.
